Today we entered apple heaven. This is the place right at the top of the tree where all the reddest ripest apples are. It can only be reached after much scrambling and scraping through branches. This particular tree was in Sale and two of us spent the day picking the hundreds of apples that were left on it.
The previous day seven of us harvested apples from a house in Longsight and then went on to the back garden of a block of flats in Stockport. Here there were three apple trees and also some local children who were very keen to help us and try out our home made fruit picking devices (poles with bottles stuck on the end). We filled several boxes and they will be taken to Cornerstone, which makes hot meals for homeless people, Crossacres, a day centre which supports older people, and The Destitution Project, which provides food parcels to destitute refugees.
