Sorry fruit-lovers, due to lack of capacity, Abundance Manchester is on hold (as of 2019). We’ve enjoyed a decade of fruit picking with this delightful project but there aren’t enough of us to organise things anymore.
We’d love to see others take the reins, so if anyone out there has a serious interest in getting the group back up and running and has time to look after the website & email account as well as organising harvesting sessions and distributing the fruit, please contact 07967 227 981. Thanks!
Abundance meets regularly to plan activities, discuss progress, and distribute tasks. Please sign up to our mailing list if you’d like to be kept in touch or get involved.
If you’d like to help us do some fruit picking, organising or delivering produce, we’d love to meet you! We are looking for new volunteers for all aspects of the project. You can get involved with one particular area or several if you like;
Fruit picking – We have fruit picking sessions every Sunday during the season (typically August to October/November). We usually meet at 1pm and to go 2/3 gardens to pick fruit, which we then distribute by bike trailer or car if necessary.
Distributing – If you are a keen cyclist and interested in whizzing round with a bike trailer to deliver our freshly picked fruit and veg, we need you! Or if you can distribute with a car that may also be very useful for when there’s more than we can carry in our trailers!
Juicing / Cooking – We also do fruit juicing and make apple crumbles and chutneys, so keep an eye on our list if you are interested.
Getting more involved – We are always looking for more people to help organise fruit pickings and other activities associated with the group, so please get in touch if you would like to help.
To find out more about any of the above, please contact us. We inform volunteers about most of the above through our mailing list, so please sign up to receive updates.
I would like to pick fruit. I’m available most weekends but I don’t have a car. Please send me an email if you would like me to help.

I work days but if there are any forthcoming days I can make I would love to get involved! Please could you email me locations and dates of some of the fruit picking/distributing occasions and I will try and find some which I can help out! Thank you this is a brilliant and exciting project!!

Hello!
Would really love to get involved in whatever way I can. Could you email me with some dates of activities so I can work around them?
Thank you!
Hi there.. what a great concept. Im a tree surgeon of long standing and am witness to tons of fruit going to waste around the gardens I visit. I rescue what I can but an organisation such as yours is long overdue.
Would like to discover a little more about how you operate but Im sure I could get involved in some way. My skills and equipment might be of use to you during harvest time but perhaps I can contribute in other ways throughout the year.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards Patrick Walsh
Hiya
It’s May 30th as I write this. I came to the plot last Sunday and it was intended I come back and help out but it happens I’ve found a plot – someone’s garden at the back of their house – so will be going there instead.
Thanks for the welcome last Sunday
Ed

Dear Everyone
If you are interested in volunteering, and want to get involved in some hands-on growing, the first plot session of the year will take place on Saturday 9th April 2011 from 2-4pm. The plot is at the end of the car park at Manchester Bridge Club, 30 Palatine Road, West Didsbury, M20 3JJ.
After that, it will be every Sunday from 2-4
Hope you can join us!
(And let us know if you have any compost, seedlings, pots, tools etc you wish to contribute and we can come and collect)

Hi,
I’ve just moved to Chorlton from Brighton and would love to get involved in something like fruit picking.. I’m scared of heights tho so as long as I don’t have to climb to far up!
Can you please let me have more details?
Thanks,
Erika
Hi Erika can you drop an email to abundancemanchester@yahoo.co.uk and we’ll put you on the mailing list, that way you’ll hear about everything that’s going on. Oh and you don’t have to climb anything if you don’t want to! We have picking devices that allow you to do it from the ground, plus there’s distribution to be done.
Hi, would love to help… what a great idea!
Please let me know how I can get involved!
